Open source technology sees mass acceptance
V3 - More than one-third of companies plan to migrate mission-critical software to
open source in the next 12 months, according to a report from consulting and
technology firm Accenture.
The survey questioned 300 large organisations in the public and private
sectors, two-thirds (69 per cent) of whom said they would increase investment in
open source technology in 2010.
Some 50 per cent said they were fully committed to open source in their
business while almost a third (28 per cent) said they were experimenting with
open source and keeping an open mind about it.
Benefits of open source include lower cost, greater interoperability with
other products and the avoidance of being locked in to proprietary solutions.
