Complaint Alleges Microsoft's New File Format Impedes
Alliance Urges Microsoft to Provide Full, Native Support for the ISO-Approved ODF
Washington, DC, May 19, 2008. The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta) announced last week that it has referred its interoperability complaint to the European Commission, alleging that interoperability difficulties would be compounded by Microsoft's decision to offer native "out of the box" support for its own Office Open XML (OOXML) file format, while refusing to offer equivalent support for the ISO-approved Open Document Format (ODF) increasingly demanded by users.
